Barbados
Beach Reviews |
| Accra
Beach - Rockley, South Coast, Barbados |
|
| This
beach, the biggest on the south coast, is very popular
with locals and tourists. Located near Rockley, it features
public changing facilities and a parking lot; snorkeling
equipment and beach umbrellas are available for rent.
Hungry for a snack? Vendors sell food and handicrafts
from booths along the sand. Nice beach but a bit overcrowded
anywhere near the beach vendors. Good beach for singles,
couples or families. Sea has some fair size breakers from
time to time. |

| Barclays
Park - Ermy Bourne Hwy, Barbados |
|
| This
park has lovely picnic areas and tide pools in which you
can wade and look for sea creatures. If you didn't bring
your own lunch, a local restaurant offers tasty snacks.
A word of warning: many feel the surf at this beach is
too dangerous for serious swimming – it's best to
stick to wading and picnicking! Not for swimming, but
fantastic to watch the huge breakers crashing on the reefs.
Not a place to be alone. |

| Brighton
Beach - Spring Garden Hwy, Bridgetown, Barbados |
|
| Thanks
to gentle waves and a location convenient to Bridgetown,
this beach is extremely popular with the local crowd,
who come for a quick dip on their way home from work.
The huge, unbroken stretch of beach offers public parking
and changing facilities. |

| Silver
Sands Beach - South Point, Barbados |
|
| This
beach is a windsurfer's dream. Stiff breezes provide a
challenging environment for intermediate to advanced enthusiasts.
Sun worshippers will be content soaking up rays on the
soft, white-sand beach. Located on the southernmost tip
of the island, the beach lies in an area known as the
"S point." At Silver Sands on the south coast
of Barbados, the sand is blown to form dunes which is
stabilised by vegetation. In the very salty sand near
the sea few plants will grow, but those that do stop the
movement of the windblown sand, enabling other plants
to take hold. It is as a result of these plants that the
dunes are built up. The sand on these dunes is less salty
and plants such as the sea grape and the manchineel become
rooted and grow. |

| Mullins
Beach - Hwy 1, Mullins Bay, Speightstown, Barbados |
|
| This
beach offers something for everyone. Swimmers will appreciate
the calm, lapping waters, while snorkeling enthusiasts
will enjoy exploring the area's coral formations. Water
skiing and jet skiing are also available. Drinks, snacks
and full meals are served at Mannie's Suga Suga, right
on the water. Ample parking is provided in a lot across
the road from the beach. This is the place to relax in
a lounge chair under the umbrellas and shade of the Casuarina
or palm trees, take a dip in the safely roped off areas,
or venture out further on a jetski! The beach bar is a
great spot to grab a drink, snack or lunch during the
day, or to drop by later on for a romantic sunset dinner
or nightcap. |
